A Family, A Fair: A Parenting Festival at the Lake — Seeking Vendors! June 3, 2009
To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, we are again hosting A Family, A Fair: A Parenting Festival at the Lake (formerly called the Lake Norman Baby Fair). This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10am to 2pm on the Town Green in Davidson, North Carolina. The festival is sponsored by the Town of Davidson and will feature up to forty exhibitors, including well-known businesses and local crafters. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and children’s activities. New and expectant mothers and their families will attend to participate in the activities and visit the exhibits; we expect 400-500 festival-goers.
At this time, we are inviting exhibitors, advertisers, sponsors, and donors to support this important outreach and fund raising event! This is a great opportunity to show your support for breastfeeding and to reach local families with information about your own products or services.

September 20 is less than two weeks away now, and all the major planning for our baby fair is in place. We are excited about our record-setting 28 vendors, the terrific line-up of speakers and presentations, and also about the growing number of wonderful raffle items we have received from generous donors.
From 10am to 2pm, we’ll be running a bake sale, giving out free registration packets to those who sign in, and providing free breastfeeding information. There will be a Fun Zone for free children’s activities, a Rock-and-Rest tent complete with rocking chairs and shade, and even a Dad’s Den for some male camaraderie. Also, the Davidson Police Department will be doing free safety checks of carseat installation — call 704-892-5131 for your 15-minute appointment.

We will also have a children’s activity area with coloring, play dough, bubbles, and other fun activities. We will have a Rock and Rest tent for mothers to rest and nurse in privacy, and we will have a Dad’s Den tent for dads to connect with each other!
August 8-9: Charlotte-wide celebration of World Breastfeeding Week July 27, 2008
World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is being celebrated in Charlotte with two exciting public events. Latch-On and Smile is a free event to be held at Freedom Park’s Mahlon Adams Pavilion at 10:00 am on Friday, August 8th. This event is designed to show the happy, healthy and diverse face of breastfeeding and to raise awareness of local breastfeeding-support resources. Mothers from all walks of life will gather with their nurslings and breastfeed together for one minute. WIC is providing baby tees to the first 25 infants.
Carolina Medical Center (CMC) Main and CMC Pineville are sponsoring a free Fashion Show and Baby Fair on Saturday, August 9th from 1:00 – 4:30 PM at Myers Park Baptist Church Heaton Hall, 1931 Selwyn Avenue. The fashion show will feature maternity, nursing and children’s clothes, as well as accessories, by Belly Elan, Motherwear and Peek A Boo Couture. It will include children’s activities, refreshments, silent auction and vendors. This event is presented by La Leche League of Charlotte, BELLAS, and Mocha Moms. All are welcome.
World Breastfeeding Week is an annual global effort to raise awareness for breastfeeding. It celebrates the signing of the Innocenti Declaration, produced and adopted in 1990 by participants at the WHO/UNICEF meeting on “Breastfeeding in the 1990s: A Global Initiative on the Protection, Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding.”

If you are interested in helping with any planning aspect of the Baby Fair, please email me at tracyb928@hotmail.com. We need all the help we can get! There are various jobs still available such as helping with publicity, soliciting donations, planning the bake sale, as well as the “day-of” jobs such as registering vendors, selling baked goods, and helping set up and take down tents and other supplies.

In addition to the sponsor, donor, and vendor options, we are also accepting advertising literature to go in the registration packets that every registered Baby Fair attendee will receive.
